Tech question on the GVP 4060
Loaded up windows tonight and found both my sony CD-ROM and CD-RW not in my computer, i went to the system menu and in hardware devices there is !! marks next to both cd drives and there is also one next to SM Bus Controller, i uninstalled all of them hoping they would reinstall and befine, the cd roms will install

Disapearing D (CD-RW) Drive
A friends computer had a CD-ROM and one day her power went out while the PC was running and now the CD-ROm dosn't work in windows. It works if re-start to DOS but not in windows. ALso there are yellow !!!! marks on the IDE controller in device manager as well as the CDrom. It is an Intel Endevor MB with the PIIX

I My problems all but disapeared when I changed my boot to my scsi drive and moved my 2 maxtor ATA100 10G 7200 drives to the raid controller (mirror config) I and the cd-rom on ide-1 as a slave with the cdrw on ide-2 as master or with 2 hdd's on ide-1 with the cd-rom as master and the cdrw as slave on ide-2.

CD ROM Drive and Drivers Missing
Yesterday, both my cd-rom and DVD drive were working fine. Today they only appear in device manager and said to be working properly. For example neither Windows Explorer nor the system information would show any cd or dvd drives installed. I've no idea how they could have disapeared! Other thing, I notice that

My CD-Rom drives dissapeared earlier this week. I didn't do anything to change the settings, but now it has a qestion mark next to them in the device manager. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers, and even removed them and had Windows re-recognize them. I tried generic driver and that didn't work either.

Don't know if this is your problem but I have seen some IDE controllers that will detect a CD rom drive configured for slave operation with a hard drive that and cabled correctly rebooted with win98 floppy, enabled cdrom suport and checked the drive and the cdrom works rebooted to windows and it disapeared again.

As of now, if I start in DOS mode, I still have access of the CD-ROM drive, but not my ZIP. On another note, I had photoshop 3.0.4 working with wfw 3.11, but now with win95, the Render filters group has disapeared. Even when I reinstalled photoshop, they never came back.
